End-of-school-year Holy Mass
Our annual End-of-school-year Holy Mass was held at the School Hall this year. The mass was celebrated by the School Chaplain, Fr. Paul Chung. All students and teachers attended the Holy Mass, which is a vital part of the student formation curriculum.

All internal academic awards and excellent service awards were presented to the students to recognize their performances in the last academic year. Anniversary Mass
2015 marks the 85th Anniversary of our Primary School, Tak Sun School and our Kindergarten, Tak Sun Private Kindergarten, as well as the 15th Anniversary of Tak Sun Secondary School. Three schools celebrated together in the Joint Anniversary Mass on 30th June 2015 (Tuesday) at 7:00 pm in the Hong Kong Cathedral. Our former school chaplain and the former primary school supervisor, Bishop Stephen Lee, Auxiliary Bishop of Hong Kong, celebrated the Mass.

15th Speech Day
Speech Day is a milestone for our Form 6 students. The Guest of Honour of our 15th Annual Speech Day ceremony was Prof. Emily M. Nason, Associate Dean of the HKUST Business School. She gave an enlightening keynote address to our graduates regarding the attitude they should have. In addition, we have invited Mr. Arnold TAI (Form 7 Graduate of Class of 2007) to give a sharing to our graduates. The valedictory address was given by KWAN Ka Leong of 6M and he is also the winner of the Jockey Club Shield 2013-2014. In addition, various awards were presented to recognize students' efforts. Our new careers magazine - ??
A Careers and Lifelong Planning Committee was set up this year with support from a recurring government grant. This team will give updates and information about college education and careers on a special page in the Student Formation Section of the school website. Each year the team will produce a magazine “??” (Mission) - to help students, teachers and parents understand the importance of career planning. This year the theme is “Study Abroad” written with contributions from alumni in Australia, Canada, Switzerland and UK. The magazine can viewed at the following link:

C Grade Inter-class Football Contest Final
The C Grade Inter-class Football Contest Final, organized by the Student Association, was played between classes 2J and 1J on 29 May. The match ended in a draw and 2J won the title on penalties.

The match concluded this year's Inter-class Football and Basketball Contests with all the 30 classes participating in over 50 matches.

Well done all the players and referees as well as the Student Association committee members!

Visit to Legislative Council
Twenty Form 1 boys visited the Legislative Council Complex on 23 May 2015 for understanding the legislation procedure and the formation of Legislative Council. This was an enrichment activity of Form 1 Life and Society Class in order to give them an in-depth understanding about the historical development and functions of the council in Hong Kong.

Visit to New Life Farm
Fifteen students visited the New Life Farm in Tuen Mun on 16 May. Business Club organized the activity to enhance students' understanding about the operation of a social enterprise, which provide training and employment opportunities for people in recovery of mental illness. Participants had the chance to make recycled paper and engage in farm work to feel the hardship of being a farmer.

Tak Sun Summer Serenade
Tak Sun Summer Serenade was held on 15th May 2015 at the School Hall, starting from 7:30 pm. This was an annual show to showcase students' efforts and recognize their talents in Music, especially in the OSOSA (One-Student-One-Sport-and-Art) programmes. They had been preparing for this show for a long time and it was well received by parents and students alike.

In-school History Debate Friendly
History Studies subject panel and Chinese Debate Team co-organised two in-school history debate friendlies on 20 April and 27 April for junior and senior students respectively. The purpose is to arouse students' interest in historical knowledge as well as debating skills.

The junior form friendly was won by 2J Yim Jeston, 2J Wong Siu Hei, 2W Yau Chun Chong Andy and 3M Chow Cheuk Him.

The senior form friendly was won by 5P Chow Hong Man, 5J Lam Man Hin, 5J Wu Man Lap and 5J Li Cheuk Lok Oscar.

Staff Development Day
In order to provide more professional support to our teachers and staff, the School organized 3 Staff Development Days a year. In the last one on 1st April, Fr. Kwok and Mr. Patrick Yeung were invited to give a short talk on the importance of family values and Ms. Maureen Chu and Ms. Karin Chow was invited to deliver some ideas about mediation.

Tak Sun Stock Trading Game
More than 50 Form 3 & Form 4 students participate in the stock trading simulation game during 23-27 March 2015. The activity aims to enhance students' understanding towards the operation of stock market and help them to analyze the relationship between current issues and the fluctuations of stock prices.

Handmade Chocolates from parents
Our parents from the Parent-Teacher Association have prepared some home-made chocolates for our teachers and staff as a token of thanks for the efforts done to their sons. It showed the close relationship between our parents and the School.

F.1-2 Inter-class Current Affairs Competition
Life & Society subject department and Business Club jointly organized the event for Form 1 (13 March 2015) and Form 2 (17 March 2015) students. The activity aims to raise their awareness towards current issues and increase their learning opportunities. The champion class is 2M and 1J respectively. Congratulations!

Junior Achievement Personal Finance Programme
Thirty Form 3 boys joined the JA Personal Finance Programme to learn more about personal finance management. Mr. Richie Lo from HSBC conduct the interactive workshop which enable them to learn how to write a cheque, drawbacks from using credit card and stock market operation etc. This activity enable the students to learn more about personal finance and cultivate their interest on studying business subjects in senior form.

Water Rocket Competition 2015
The Science Stream organized the annual Water Rocket Competition for all Form 2 students in order to enhance their practical learning. Through this activity, the students could experience the application of scientific knowledge to daily life. This year, we have invited our USA exchanges students to be the helpers as well as the MC of the events. The students enjoyed very much. Congratulations to Hillary House as they won the Inter-House competition!

Visit to Hong Kong Monetary Authority
Twenty-six Form 3 and 4 boys visited the Hong Kong Monetary Authority Exhibition Gallery on 7th March 2015 for an exhibition of historical development of Hong Kong monetary & financial system and features of banknotes in Hong Kong. This activity enable the students to learn more about the development of financial sector in Hong Kong and give me an idea about the business subjects in senior-form curriculum.

Chinese calligraphy practices
The Chinese department had organized a Chinese calligraphy practice to celebrate the Lunar New Year. Apart from our students, all USA exchange students and their teacher were invited to join. They practices some Chinese writing and making Chinese New Year antithetical couplets. We believed they enjoyed the Chinese culture.

Wushu Demonstration
The School organized a Wushu demonstration on 25 February 2015 at the School Hall after-school by Hong Kong Youth Team members, including 2W CHAN Yee Lok, 4M LAU Tsz Hong and 6J LAU Tsz Wing. Apart from our students, the USA exchange students also participated in the event and practiced some of the Wushu forms. They all enjoyed a great afternoon and understood more about the Chinese Wushu traditions.

Leadership training
Last Saturday (31 January), 22 student leaders including SA Committee, Head Prefects, Prefect Leaders, and House Committee joined the activity. They learned basic leadership concepts and effective communication skills through various group activities and discussions. Two alumni, Jonathan Mok (Form 7 Graduate of Class of 2009) and Gabriel Tai (Form 7 Graduate of Class of 2012), also joined the session as trainers.

Form 3 History Studies Museum Visit
Twenty-five Form 3 boys visited the Hong Kong Coastal Defense Museum on 26 January for a special exhibition on the 1894-95 Sino-Japanese War, as an enrichment activity of Form 3 History Studies class. After the visit, they will conduct a presentation to share what they have learnt in the class.

Parent Manager Election
The Parent Manager Election for the Incorporated Management Committee was conducted on 17th January under the supervision of the Election Manager, Ms. Ellis Li, the representative from the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). The counting of votes was held at 3:00 pm on the same day with the monitoring of Dr. Peter Herbert, our Principal: The results are as follows:
Candidate 1. Mr. Peter Mak (a Form 3 parent): 230 votes
Candidate 2. Ms. Teresa Fan (a Form 3 parent): 139 votes

Hence, according to the PTA constitutions, Mr. Peter Mak and Ms. Teresa Fan will be nominated as the School’s Parent Manager and Alternative Parent Manager. Congratulations to Mr. Mak, Ms. Fan and the PTA. Also, the School would like to thank our previous Parent Manager, Mrs. Catherine Sze, for her contributions to the School.

Alumni Homecoming Day
This was an annual School event engaging all old boys coming back to their alma mater, which was mainly organized by the Tak Sun Secondary School Alumni Association. Ball games and board games were arranged together with the barbeque. More than 70 old boys and teachers coming back to support. In addition, the Annual General Meeting was held and Yip Siu Kwan, Jeff (Form 7 Graduates of Class of 2002) was nominated as the Alumni Manager for the next term. After the event, some of them even went outside for another gathering again!

2014-15 Potential Development Scholarships Awards
The school is to encourage Primary 6 students with outstanding qualities to award the PD Scholarship. The scholarship covers full school fee remission for one year in Form 1, renewable upon review for six consecutive years until Form 6. This year, the School has offered 13 Scholarships, which is equivalent to the amount of $286,000.

2014-15 Academic Achievement Scholarships Awards
The goal of the AA Scholarship is to encourage academic excellence in our students. Candidates should obtain the top five year-end score in the form in the previous academic year, plus a satisfactory conduct report. The scholarship covers full and partial school fee remission. This year, the School has offered 7 Full Scholarships and 9 Half Scholarships, which is equivalent to the amount of $275,000.

2014-15 Sportsman and Musician Scholarships Awards
The school is happy to announce that the following students have been awarded scholarships for their outstanding performance. Most of them have reached the highest level in their sport and have represented Hong Kong at national and international level. Their scholarship covers full and partial school fee remission. The school congratulates and encourages them in their striving for sporting excellence. This year, the School has offered 6 Full Scholarship and 6 Half Scholarship, which is equivalent to the amount of $220,000.

2014-15 Family Grant
The Tak Sun mission is to strengthen and unite the family, enabling parents to exercise their rights and duties as first educators of their children. As a way of supporting families, this grant covers 100% of the annual school fee of HK $22,000 and is given to any incoming Form 1 student with two siblings or more, brothers or sisters. This year, the School has offered 7 Family Grants, which is equivalent to the amount of $154,000.

2014-15 Grants for Brothers Scheme
As Tak Sun emphasizes family ties, we encourage boys from the same family to study together. Hence, we offer a grant worth $11,000 (50% of annual school fee) to younger brothers entering the school. The School has offered 19 Grants for Brother Scheme, which is equivalent to the amount of $209,000.

The School has offered a total of 50 Progress Grants to the students in need, which is equivalent to the amount of $902,000. We believe that it will help our boys study well in our School.

Student Christmas Party
The celebration this year was held on 18th December 2014 and mainly coordinated by the Student Association. Apart from the excellent performances by the students in the Singing Contest Final, the students also enjoyed the food and presents in their individual class Christmas Party. Of course, they also had a better understanding of the meaning of Christmas - the birth of Jesus Christ and his selfless sacrifice for all of us. The School would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

15th Athletics Meet
The 15th Athletics Meet was held at Ma On Shan Sports Ground on 6th and 7th November. Under the flags of the house emblems, all students participating in the events played different roles, such as athletes or cheering team members. Piccard House became the overall champion! Congratulations!

The declarations of the Student Association, School Prefects and 4 Houses were conducted in the assemblies on 14 October. The Head Prefect led his Prefect Team, the Chairman of Student Association led his Committee members and the House Captains led their committees to declare they would serve their School and the students in the coming year in front of all teachers and students. Parent-Teacher Association Annual General Meeting

TSSS PTA AGM was held on 11 October (Saturday) from 2:30 to 4:30 pm. Starting from 2:30 pm, there is a parenting seminar conducted by Mr. WONG Hing Ching from Lingnan University. Around 100 PTA members attended.

During the AGM starting from 3:30 pm, the new PTA committee for school year 2014-15 was elected:

Vice-Chairperson: Ms. Cathy Lam & Ms. Karen Tsang
Secretary: Ms. Mycelle Lo & Mr. Barry Ng

Community Charity Day
The Day was an educational activity that provided an opportunity for our students to learn the virtues of caring and generosity by supporting the Dress Casual Day organized by the Hong Kong Community Chest and the Raffle ticket sales organized by the Hong Kong Caritas. Also, in order to enhance students’ house identity, an inter-house fund-raising competition was held. Approximately $33,000 was raised by the students, teachers and staff.

The forum and election of the Student Association were held on 24 September 2014. All students had experienced a democratic election by actively casting their votes to select the new cabinet. Candidate 1: Light (headed by 5T Leung Long Yin) won the election. Congratulations!

V2C2 (Virtue Video Clip Competition) Prize Presentation
The School emphasizes virtue formation as a part of whole-person development. All classes were invited to prepare virtue video clips to promote correct values and attitudes among the students and their products were shown in the school assemblies. In order to recognize students’ efforts, a prize presentation was arranged and different prizes were given out including Directing, Editing, Story-making and Actors.

Good book sharing session
It is always a challenging task to select a good book in school library. School Library invited Ms. Fan Kien Mei (?????), the founder of PTU Promisingbookstore and an experienced Chinese teacher, to deliver a good book recommendation session to our junior form students. The session is well received and all recommended books were on display for reading after the session.

Mock HKDSE Result Release
In order to let our Form 6 students be familiar with the arrangements of the HKDSE result release and their possible pathways after their graduation, a special workshop was arranged in the afternoon before their last day on 28th February. We wish them every success in their examinations and future career.

Activity Week Experience (AWE) Programme
The Activity Week Experience (AWE) Programme is a core part of the school curriculum for all Form 1 to Form 5 students in the realm of experiential learning. This year, it was held from 10th February to 14th February 2014 with 23 programmes, including 9 overseas programmes, 6 mainland programmes and 8 local programmes. Octopus systems and eClass systems under QEF
With the support of the Quality Education Fund on improving the school administration and student learning by introducing e-platforms, the School has introduced Octopus attendance taking, Octopus payment system and eClass systems on communication and learning. 2013-14 Family Grant
The Tak Sun mission is to strengthen and unite the family, enabling parents to exercise their rights and duties as first educators of their children. As a way of supporting families, this grant covers 100% of the annual school fee of HK $22,000 and is given to any incoming Form 1 student with two siblings or more, brothers or sisters. This year, the School has offered 14 Family Grant, which is equivalent to the amount of $308,000.

As Tak Sun emphasizes family ties, we encourage boys from the same family to study together. Hence, we offer a grant worth $11,000 (50% of annual school fee) to younger brothers entering the school. The School has offered 16 Grants for Brother Scheme, which is equivalent to the amount of $176,000.

The 14th Athletics Meet was held at Ma On Shan Sports Ground on 31st October and 1st November. Under the flags of the house emblems, all students participating in the events played different roles, such as athletes or cheering team members. Reading Programme - Author sharing
As a part of the Main Concerns, the school promotes Reading culture in the coming years. In order to provide a reading atmosphere, the School organized talks and book sharing on joyfulness in reading. On 15th October, as a kick-off of the Reading programme, the School invited Ms. Philic Man to share her experience in writing. The students enjoyed very much.

Parent-Teacher Association Annual General Meeting
The Tak Sun Secondary School PTA Annual General Meeting was held on 12 October (Saturday) from 2.30 to 4.30 pm. Starting from 2:30 pm, there is a parenting seminar conducted by Ms. CHAN from CUHK. More than 150 PTA members attended.

Then, the AGM elected the new PTA committee for school year 2013-14. The new committee is as follows:

Community Charity Day
The Day was an educational activity that provided an opportunity for our students to learn the virtues of caring and generosity by supporting the Dress Casual Day organized by the Hong Kong Community Chest and the Raffle ticket sales organized by the Hong Kong Caritas. Also, in order to enhance students’ house identity, an inter-house fund-raising competition was held. More than $40,000 was raised by the students, teachers and staff.

The forum and election of the Student Association were held on 25 September 2013. Nearly all students cast their votes to select the new cabinet. All students experienced a democratic election. 13th Speech Day
Speech Day is a milestone for our Form 6 students. The Guest of Honour of our 13th Annual Speech Day ceremony was Dr. Eden Woon, Vice-President of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and he is also an old boy of Tak Sun School. He gave an enlightening keynote address to our graduates regarding the attitude they should have. The valedictory address was given by KAN Chun Ting, Max of 6J, and he is also the winner of the Jockey Club Shield 2011-2012. Teacher-Students Book Sharing Sessions
Teacher-Student Book Sharing Sessions were organized nearly once a month every year in order to promote reading among students. This is the last session of this year, apart from having two teachers, Mr. Jerome Leung and Mr. Yu Yat Hon to share the books with our student, 4J TAM Wai Yin, Ian in this session, Mr. Chan Kim Ching, a geography researcher, was invited to share his books also. Mr. Chan's book is also closely related to the curricula in the junior form Contemporary Studies as well as senior form Geography. Our students enjoyed the session very much.

Tak Sun Family Walkathon
Instead of having Tak Sun Family Fun Day, we have organized Tak Sun Family Walkathon as important event celebrating joyfulness among all families of Tak Sun schools, including parents, students, teachers and alumni of Tak Sun Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary schools. The route of the Walkathon began at the School and continued along the Ma On Shan Promenade as far as Wu Kai Sha. Approximately 800 participants had a wonderful leisure walk, and also celebrating the Mothers' Day and the 12th Anniversary of Tak Sun Secondary School inauguration under a wonderful weather.

Visit to Hong Kong Museum of History
History Department organized a visit to the Hong Kong Museum of History for 31 Form 2 students on 9 May 2013. Students got the chance to learn about the history of ancient Mesopotamia. The visit enriched their knowledge about the Mesopotamian civilization which witnessed the flowering of sophisticated art and literature together with remarkable achievements in intellectual, spiritual and scientific realms that still have a profound influence on modern life nowadays.

NSS subject selection workshop
In order to help our Form 3 students understand more about the elective choice in their Senior Secondary curriculum, the School Social Worker and the Careers Team organized a workshop for them to let them understand the situation they might face on that day and provide them with guidance on how to choose their electives and their careers. Contemporary Studies Department organized a visit to Legislative Council for 22 F.2 students on 27/3/2013. Students have the chance to learn about the historical development of Legislative council, functions of the council and talk to Legislative councilors, Dr. Elizabeth Quat and Mr. Gary FAN Kwok-wai. This can enrich their knowledge about the Legislative council.

The Science Stream organized a Water Rocket Competition for all Form 2 students in order to enhance their practical learning. Through this activity, the students could experience the application of scientific knowledge to daily life. This year, there is a new record with more than 60 m! AWE Programme 2013
The Activity Week Experience (AWE) Programme is a core part of the school curriculum for all Form 1 to Form 5 students in the realm of experiential learning. This year, it was held from 18th February to 22nd February 2013 with 22 programmes, including 8 overseas programmes, 5 mainland programmes and 9 local programmes. Red Cross Overnight Camp
Our Red Cross (Youth Unit 304) had arranged an overnight camp for 30 members from our Form 1 students at School. During the camp, they have learnt lots of collaboration skills which will help them in the future and also some lectures were conducted to extend their learning in Red Cross. The programme was well received by the students.

Scout Wild Camp Training
Our Scouts has arranged an overnight camp for 50 members from our Form 1 to Form 5 students (majority are Form 1 and Form 2 students) at Tai Po Tung Tsz Scout Centre. Apart from the basic skills on camping, they have learnt lots of other skills like collaboration and communication techniques. Our students had a wonderful and exciting experience.

Parent Manager Election
The Parent Manager Election for the Incorporated Management Committee commenced on 9th November under the supervision of the Election Manager, Mr. Lawrence Lai, the Vice-chairman of our Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). The counting of votes was held at 7:30 pm on 16th November. We have received 1125 votes. The winners are as follows:
Candidate 1. Mrs. Catherine Sze (a Form 4 parent): 590 votes
Candidate 3. Mr. Pierre Fung (a Form 6 parent): 396 votes

Hence, according to the PTA constitutions, Mrs. Catherine Sze and Mr. Pierre Fung will be nominated as the School’s Parent Manager and Alternative Parent Manager. Our annual Start-of-school-year Holy Mass was held at the St. Francis of Assisi Church in Shek Kep Mei this year. The mass was celebrated by the School Chaplain, Fr. Joey Mandia. All students and teachers attended the Holy Mass, which is a vital part of the student formation curriculum.

Summer Adaptation Programme
The Summer Adaptation Programme was designed to help our incoming Form 1 boys prepare for their secondary studies. The programme included school facility introduction, community visits, English immersion programmes, adolescent health programmes, and so on. The graduation ceremony, together with a parenting talk and a uniform group exhibition, was held on the last day and well-received by both parents and students.

Tak Sun Family Fun Day
This is an annual event celebrating joyfulness among all families of Tak Sun schools. We have invited Mr. Yeung Cheung Li, the District Officer, as our Guest of Honour. Starting with a Sunday Holy Mass, the Family Fun day offered wonderful variety shows, game booths, sports games, auctions, book fairs, charity sales, student performances, teacher performances, and much more. Approximately 1000 parents, teachers and students from the secondary school, the primary school and the kindergarten took part joyfully on that unforgettable day for all Tak Sun family members.

12th Annual Speech Day
Speech Day is a milestone for our Form 6 and 7 students, especially this year as they are the last batch of HKALE students and first batch of HKDSE students. The Guest of Honour of our 12th Annual Speech Day ceremony was Prof. Lawrence Lai, the Professor of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Hong Kong. He gave an enlightening keynote address to our graduates regarding the attitude they should have. The valedictory address was given by CHAU Kwan Hang, Denis of 6M. The winner of the Jockey Club Shield 2010-2011 is LOUIE Yin Lam of 6J. In addition, various awards were presented to recognize students' efforts. Visit to United International College, Zhuhai
With the coordination by our Parent-Teacher Association, our Careers Team has organized a visit to United International College (UIC), Zhuhai, China for our senior secondary students on 26th May 2012. Around 30 students, parents and teachers participated in the visit to this institution. UIC is co-established by the Beijing Normal University and the Hong Kong Baptist University with the special approval by the Government of China. According to their introduction, UIC graduates will be recognized by China, Hong Kong and other international countries. It is believed that students would have more exposure in their career choices, especially after their public examinations, after this visit.

TSSS students at City Forum
Selected Form 5 students and 3 teachers attended the City Forum arranged by RTHK on 20th May 2012. The public forum is about the marathon filibuster at the Legislative Council (Legco) and the first time powers in the rules of procedure invoked by the president to halt debate on a controversial bill to restrict Legco by-elections (??????? ????????). Apart from listening different views from different parties on this hot topic, our student even got a chance to express his opinion. This is a very good opportunity for them to enhance their knowledge in Liberal Studies.

Interview with the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions (???????)
Selected Form 3 students conducted an interview with Mr. Leung Fu Wah (?????), the Vice-President of the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions on 14th May 2012 about the possible effects of the implementation of minimum wage in Hong Kong last week. This activity enhances students collecting first-hand data for their Contemporary Studies project learning final report.

In memory of LUNG Chi Chung Ben (2004 F7 Graduate)
With great sadness, we would like to inform you that LUNG Chi Chung Ben (F7 graduate of Class of 2004) passed away on 7th May 2012. He was 27. Our Tak Sun Secondary School Alumni Association has set up a fundraising campaign for his medical expenses. The donation received will be given to his family as a condolence. On 11th May 2012 (Friday), a special mass will be arranged in the morning at 8:30 am at the School Chapel. May he rest in peace.

JA Personal Finance Programme 2011-12
In collaboration with Junior Achievement (Hong Kong), our school organized an in-house Personal Finance Programme for Form 3 students. The business volunteers, Mr. Jason Fung & Mr. Wesley Wong, organized a series of in-class activities to enhance students' understanding towards personal financial management skills such as budgeting, saving, paying bills etc. The programme was well-received by our Form 3 students.

More than 50 Form 3 students have participated in the Stock Trading Game, organized by Social & Humanities Society. It enhanced students' understanding towards stock market operation and establishing the relationship between current news and stock price changes.

Slam Dunk Challenge – Basketball with Social Service
11 students were selected to participate in this programme. They are required to complete a series of social services from November 2011 to February 2012. Then, they are now having matched in Boys Open Group (24 teams). They understand their abilities more through the social service and sports activities, which were important in their personal development.

Form 3 Careers Workshop
In order to help our Form 3 students understand more about the elective choice in their Senior Secondary curriculum, the School Social Worker and the Careers Team organized a workshop for them to let them understand the situation they might face on that day and provide them with guidance on how to choose their electives and their careers. C-Grade Handball. Tak Sun vs La Salle College 27:23
Our friends at La Salle College returned our visit for a second friendly match with our Grade C Handball Team. Apart from keeping a good friendship between two Catholic schools, all players learned a lot in a very competitive match. This time Tak Sun won the match by 27:23 after 90 minutes of play, so the tally so far stands at Tak Sun 1: La Salle College 1.

Parents’ Forum
All Term 2 Parents' Forums are organized in two Friday evenings (Form 1, Form 2 and Form 4 on 24th February; and Form 3 and Form 5 on 2nd March). More than 500 parents in total attending this event. The main purpose was to build a communication platform with parents for the better formation of their sons. Themes were different at different formation levels, including Tak Sun Family Fun Day promotion by parents, Healthy Sleep Talk by CUHK professors, Careers talk by professional bodies, Senior Secondary curriculum by Careers Team and class forums by Class tutors.

AWE Programme 2012
The Activity Week Experience (AWE) Programme is a core part of the school curriculum for all Form 1 to Form 5 students in the realm of experiential learning. This year, it was held from 30th January to 3rd February 2012 with 21 programmes, including 7 overseas programmes, 6 mainland programmes and 8 local programmes. AWE Programme: Healthy Football Camp
The Healthy Football Programme was always one of the AWE programme with very high number of student intake every year. More than 60 students, with 2 visiting students coming from the mainland, had joined this programme this year. We chose the scenic Sheung Shui Community Sports Camping site as our soccer training base this time. We had spent 3 days in the camp before we moved to Ma On Sha Grass Pitch for another 2-day training. Despite most students devoured every tasty meal provided by in the camp, they definitely had gained muscle instead of fat via the intensive football training. All football lovers enjoyed the programme very much as they could learn soccer skill and talk about football together. Finishing the 5-day activity, they all went home with a happy face and with their backpack carrying 3 set of soccer jersey with socks, a pair of soccer boot, a soccer ball, a soccer match ticket and a soccer magazine!

AWE Programme: Astronomy & Space Exploration
Nothing is better than that we can observe a lot of stars and constellation when we are looking at the sky. Our students, who joined the programme, had the chance to go to the Astropark in Sai Kung on the first day of February. It is difficult to imagine that we can observe those images in Hong Kong. I think it is valuable and unforgettable experience of them.

The course aims to introduce programming techniques and topics of robotics. Upon successful completion of the course, the students would be able to programme the robot to perform some tasks and to write some simple computer programmes.

AWE Programme: Learning in Nature
The AWE programme of “L05 Learning in Nature” has been held from 30/1/2012 to 3/2/2012. Students had close encounter with many fascinating animals like giant pandas, sea lions, seals, sharks and etc. They have learnt many interesting facts about these animals as well as the threats they are facing. Most importantly, the participating students understand that they can play a critical role in conserving these animals and their living environment by changing their consumption habit. Many of them promise that they are not going to consume shark fin soup to save sharks living in the ocean, buying less products containing palm oil to reduce the need of destroying the rainforest, and choose seafood obtained from environmental friendly fishing methods.

This programme provided changes for students to learn more on professional movie production software. Students made use of Adobe Premiere Pro® and Adobe After Effects® professional software to produce excellent movies with movie effects. Their products are really amazing!

AWE Programme: Hong Kong Society Though The Lens
This programme links up project learning with personal interest. Through different investigation methods (e.g. information search, site visit, interview and so on), students will have in-depth understanding of selected Hong Kong society. Together with photography training, students will have chances to present their findings and ideas through photos in creative and extraordinary way. They can also share their masterpieces with others through exhibition. If you want to be a photographer or journalist, you can't miss this programme.

“Exploring Hong Kong Society” is a new AWE programme. This programme brought students to different parts in Hong Kong. Throughout the programme, students can interact with legislative councilor, university professors, social workers and staffs in an organic farm. Nike Pro Combat Special Force School Attack
A group of Sport trainers came to our School and provide training and conduct running tests to students according to the SPARQ (???????). The SPARQ is focused on helping athletes improve their game-day performance by developing the five key components of superior athleticism: speed, power, agility, reaction and quickness. SPARQ Training gives you the drills, programs, insight and information you need to work smarter, train harder and get better faster. They also provide their products for the best performing students.

Alumni Homecoming Barbeque
This was an annual School event engaging all old boys coming back to their alma mater, which was mainly organized by the Tak Sun Secondary School Alumni Association. Ball games, board games and computer games were arranged together with the barbeque. More than 100 old boys and teachers coming back to support. After the event, some of them even went outside for another gathering again!

Christmas Party and Singing Contest 2011
The celebration this year was held on 22nd December 2011 and coordinated by the FIDE Society. It consisted of three parts, namely, an AWE Introduction Day, Singing Contest Final and an individual class Christmas celebration. Apart from the excellent performances by the students in the Singing Contest, the students also enjoyed the food and presents. Of course, they also had a better understanding of the meaning of Christmas - the birth of Jesus Christ and his selfless sacrifice for all of us. The School would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

The Parent Manager Election for the Incorporated Management Committee commenced on 14 December under the supervision of the Election Manager, Mr. CHAN Hoi To, the Vice-chairman of our Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). The counting of votes was held at 7:30 pm on 21st December and the results are as follows:

1. Ms. Vivian Yip (a Form 3 parent): 348 votes
2. Mr. YY Yip (a F2 parent): 314 votes
3. Mr. Pierre Fung (a F5 parent): 474 votes

Hence, according to the PTA constitutions, Mr. Pierre Fung and Ms. Vivian Yip will be nominated as the School's Parent Manager and Alternative Parent Manager. Congratulations to Mr. Fung, Ms. Yip and the PTA.

The 12th Athletics Meet was held at Shatin Sports Ground on 21st and 22nd November. Under the flags of the house emblems, all students participating in the events played different roles, such as athletes or cheering team members. Joint Uniform Groups School Camp
Uniform Groups are one of the important educational programmes promoted in our School. In order to further enhance their spirit and sense of belonging, an in-school camp was organized from 18th November to 19th November. During the camp, they have learnt lots of collaboration skills which will help them in the future. The programme was well received by the uniform group members.

1. Yung Shek Hin, 2J is a member of the Hong Kong National Squad Training Team in Roller Speed Skating.
2. Lau Cheuk Yin, Matthew 4M represented Hong Kong at the Tien Jian Handball Cup in Taiwan.
3. Lau Tsz Wing, Vincent, 4P is a member of the Hong Kong Wushu Team, he joined the China Secondary School Sports competition in Inner Mongolia and took 5th place in the Bank of China 54th Festival of Sport All HK Schools Wushu Competition.
4. Cheung Shun Kan, Kelvin, 5M represented Hong Kong in the China National Handball Tournament, in Germany and in Czech Republic. He is a member of the champion HKSSF handball team and holds the Gold Award from the SportAct Scheme.
5. Lam Ho Ming, Ryan 5M Represented Hong Kong in China National Student Handball Competition in Guangzhou and in the Tien Jian Cup in Taiwan.
6. Wong Tung Lok, Jack 5W is HKSSF Swimming Champion 100 Backstroke A-Grade.
7. Yim Ho Wai, Kelvin 6T is a member of the Hong Kong Junior Cycling Team Member.

The declarations of the School Prefects were conducted in the assemblies on 11 October. 5J Max Kan was selected to be the Head Prefect and he led his Prefect Team to declare they would serve their School and the students in the coming year in front of all teachers and students.

The forum and election of the Student Association were held. Nearly all students cast their votes to select the new cabinet. All students experienced a democratic election. The former Student Association was highly praised for doing a great job in the previous year.

FIDES Camp
The FIDE Society (FIDES), a student organization which promotes the spiritual formation through student activities, organized a training camp for its members at the Don Bosco Camp on Cheung Chau Island from 30th September to 2nd October. Apart from participating in the adventure-based activities organized by the camp and the helpers (including the old boys), the participants had different activities regarding religious faith, such as Mass and Confession, and so on. After the camp, the students’ spiritual formation was further developed.

Grants for Brothers Scheme
As Tak Sun emphasizes family ties, we encourage boys from the same family to study together. Hence, we have established a new grant worth $11,000 (50% of annual school fee) to younger brothers entering the school.

Potential Development Scholarship Winners
This year an additional 8 students have been awarded this scholarship due to their outstanding academic performance and behavior:

Form 1 winners are: 1P. HO King Sun, 1T. LEE Pak Man and LEUNG Tsz Ching. Their scholarships cover 6-years school fee ($132,000) PLUS a $20,000 subsidy for the Activity Week Experience (AWE) Programme.

Uniform Groups Parade Day
Uniform Groups are one of the important educational programmes promoted in our School. Among these uniform groups, different kinds of trainings are provided to the students for their future careers, including discipline training, inter-personal relationship, problem-solving skills, and so on. Currently, we have 5 different uniform groups, namely, Air Cadets, Red Cross, Scouts, Sea Cadets and St. John Ambulance Brigade. This Parade Day is the golden opportunity for the students to showcase their achievements, which also served as an indication of their efforts in the whole year.

Tak Sun Summer Serenade celebrating 10th anniversary
This year, the Tak Sun Summer Serenade was held on 30th June at the School Hall, starting from 7:30 pm. This was an annual show to showcase students’ efforts and recognize their talents in Music, especially in the OSOSA (One-Student-One-Sport-and-Art) programmes. This year, the Serenade also served as the last event of the School’s 10th anniversary celebration. A drama recording the development of the last 10 years was played by current students and old boys. They had been preparing for this show for a long time and it was well received by parents and students alike.

F7 Graduation Dinner
Our Form 7 students have invited our Form 7 teachers to their Graduation Dinner held on 14 June 2011. They have prepared videos and performed different songs to thank for our teachers’ efforts in educating them in the last 7 years. Our Principal, Dr. Herbert, also performed a song with the band. After the lucky draw, all Form 7 students and teachers did enjoy a wonderful night. The School wishes them all the best in their future.

11th Annual Speech Day
Speech Day is a milestone for our Form 7 students. The Guest of Honour of our 11th Annual Speech Day ceremony was Prof. Franklin Luk, the Vice-President (Academic) of the Hong Kong Baptist University. He gave an enlightening keynote address to our graduates regarding their challenges ahead. The valedictory address was given by EON Tsz Chuen, Edward of 7B, a Form 7 graduate of the class of 2011, who is also the winner of the Jockey Club Shield 2009-2010.

NSS Subject Elective Workshop for Form 3 students
In order to help our Form 3 students prepare better for their choices in the coming HKDSE, our Social Worker and the Careers Team organized a workshop for them to understand the situation they might face on that day and provide them with guidance on how to choose their elective subjects and possible future careers. This workshop was well received by students.

Charitable 2nd Hand Book Sale
Social & Humanities Society organized a charitable second hand book sale during Family Fun Day. The event was highly successful and able to raise a sum of $302, which will be used for school development. The Society Chairman, WU Wing Hei, Jacky of 6A & Society vice-chairman, CHOW Wai Lam, William of 6A present the fund raised to school principal, Dr. Peter Herbert.

Tak Sun Family Fun Day celebrating 10th Anniversary
This is an annual event celebrating joyfulness among all families of Tak Sun schools. As we are celebrating our 10th anniversary also, we have invited Hon. Frederick Fung Kin Kee, SBS, JP, as our Guest of Honour, who helped our establishment 10 years ago. Starting with a Sunday Holy Mass, the Family Fun day offered wonderful variety shows, game booths, sports games, auctions, book fairs, charity sales, student performances, teacher performances, and much more. Approximately 1000 parents, teachers and students from the secondary school, the primary school and the kindergarten took part joyfully on that unforgettable day for all Tak Sun family members.

Cardinal Zen celebrates 10th Anniversary Thanksgiving Mass
Our school was first inaugurated on 12th May 2001. As today is the 10th Anniversary of the inauguration, we have asked Cardinal Zen Ze-kiun to celebrating Mass in the school to thank God for the way He has blessed and protected our school. Fr. Ramon Lopez, the Regional Vicar of the Opus Dei, Fr. Moses Ngai, the Pastor of the Ma On Shan St. Francis Church and Fr. Joey Mandia, our School Chaplain concelebrate with Cardinal Zen. After the Mass, our Fides Society had a short sharing session with the Cardinal about their experiences in the AWE Vietnam Work Camp this year. Before he left Tak Sun, Cardinal Zen was invited to lunch with members of the sponsoring body, the school management and members of the PTA.

PTA Careers Visit to China
Owing to the rapid development of business in China, more working opportunities could be found there. In order to equip our students with knowledge about the possible career prospects in China, our Parent-Teacher Association organized a day trip on 21st April to visit a multi-purpose factory in packaging in Heshan, Guangdong. This has been a golden learning opportunity for Tak Sun boys exploring their career possibilities and engaging them in learning Geography as well.

Liberal Studies Round Table Forum
Liberal Studies is a new subject for all senior secondary students under the new curriculum reform. In order to provide more opportunities for students to discuss the current issues, a Round Table Forum was organized. Teachers and students were invited to be the guest speakers on the use of nuclear power. Through this activity, the students could look at a current issue from different perspectives and apply what they have learned to their subjects.

Dress Special Day for the recent earthquake disaster in Japan
In order to help and pray for the victims in the recent earthquake disaster in Japan, the Student Association organized the Dress Special Day to show our concern while providing relief aid to the victims on 22nd March 2010. Students were reminded to dress in mourning colours and pray for the victims. Besides, the donation counter was set up from 21st to 25th March during lunchtime, with the support of the Red Cross Youth Unit. Our school has been raised $78015 finally and all donations will be given to the Hong Kong Red Cross for the emergency relief operations. Besides providing the sympathy and condolences to the victims, Tak Sun boys can have a golden opportunity to learn the right attitude to care about others with the spirit of love and caring. The School would like to take this opportunity to thank the participation of parents, teachers, staff and students.

Smiling Action campaign supporting victims in the Japanese earthquake disaster
In order to support the victims in the recent earthquake disaster in Japan, the School Social Worker and the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs Association have organized a Smiling Action campaign. Students and teachers were invited to take pictures with smiles and encouraging words in order to show our deepest condolences to the victims in the quake. Nippon, Ganbatte!

10th Anniversary Fundraising Walkathon
The first event celebrating the School’s 10th anniversary with our students, teachers, parents, alumni and our friends is the 10th Anniversary Fundraising Walkathon held on Sunday, 27th February 2011. The objective of this Walkathon is to raise money for school development, especially the improvement of school facilities. The Wing Commander, the Deputy Commanding Officer (Operations) of the Hong Kong Air Cadet Corps, Mr. Ivan Chan was invited to be the Guest of Honour of this event. He is also the Chairman of Tak Sun Alumni Association and a School Manager of Tak Sun School. The route of the Walkathon will begin at the School and continue along the newly built Ma On Shan Promenade as far as Wu Kai Sha and then return to the School. All participants did have a wonderful leisure walk under a wonderful weather.

In order to promote the learning of the Chinese Language and Culture, a Chinese and Putonghua Week was organized from 14th to 18th February 2011. Different activities were organized to increase the awareness of Chinese such as flag raising ceremony, Putonghua assembly, theme talks, cultural activities, tea tasting, teachers’ sharing and so on.

AWE Programme
The Activity Week Experience (AWE) Programme is a core part of the school curriculum for all Form 1 to Form 6 students in the realm of experiential learning. This year, it will be held from 24th to 28th January 2011. This year sees 24 programmes, including 16 overseas programmes and 8 local programmes. The Activity Week Experience (AWE) Programme is a core part of the school curriculum for all Form 1 to Form 6 students in the realm of experiential learning. Lowest Recorded Temperature by the weather station at TSSS
Our weather station has been operating for more than two years, which is a good tool for alerting students about the temperature at our School. Today, 12th January 2011, we have recorded 4.7 °C, which is a record low temperature since its establishment. With this indicator, our students and the School can be alerted to implement corresponding precautionary measures against this low temperature. First AWE Day 2010-2011
Activity Week Experience (AWE) programme is a core curriculum for all F1 to F6 students in the realm of experiential learning. It will be held from 24th to 28th January 2011. Before their participation in these activities, they have to understand more about what they are going to learn and present what they have learnt in their selected programmes through these AWE Days. The first AWE Day was held on 7th January 2011. In addition, for the overseas programmes, they even held their parents’ forums to let parents understand more about their sons’ programmes.

Alumni Homecoming Dinner
This was the first time the School had organized an event engaging all old boys coming back to their alma mater. This was mainly organized by the newly formed Tak Sun Secondary School Alumni Association. Ball games, board games and computer games were arranged before dinner started. There was a light dinner and the old boys could still have ball games and board games afterwards and some of them even went outside for another gathering again!

Christmas Party 2010
It was an annual event coordinated by the Student Association. The Party of this year was held on 22nd December 2010. It consisted of three parts, namely, an individual class Christmas celebration, a drama show celebrating Christmas and a Christmas variety show including the performance of the winners from our Singing Contest. The students not only enjoyed the food and presents, but they also had a better understanding of the meaning of Christmas – the birth of Jesus Christ and his selfless sacrifice for all of us.

English Week 2010 has made history!
The English Week 2010 has been organized to empower all Tak Sun boys to experience American culture through info panels regarding American cities and famous American writers, music, announcements, soft drinks, magazines, classical novels, graphic novels, trading cards, sports, food, movies, NBA Museum, documentaries, English Book Exhibition, Q&A sessions, lucky draws, language games and so on, thus developing the listening, speaking, reading, writing, viewing and presenting skills of our students in the realm of using and learning English outside the classroom to enhance an already English-rich campus during the English Week. More than 3500 students have participated in the four-day English Week 2010, a cultural rollercoaster, proactively, joyfully and enthusiastically. English Week 2010 really rocks!

11th Athletics Meet
The 11th Athletics Meet was held at Shatin Sports Ground on 6th December and 7th December. Under the flags of the house emblems, all students participating in the events played different roles, such as athletes or cheering team members. Bioethics Talk for Students
Fr. S. Joseph Tham, from the Legionaires of Christ who teaches Bioethics in Rome, delivered a talk on Bioethics to our senior secondary students on 8th November. The students were inspired by the talk and they could even apply such knowledge to their learning in the NSS and AL curricula.

Effective Parenting Workshop
As parents are the primary educators of our boys, the School emphasizes the importance of parenting. Approximately 80 parents enrolled in the basic parenting course organized with the cooperation of Family First Foundation and the Parent-Teacher Association and the effective parenting course organized by the Boys' and Girls' Clubs Association of Hong Kong.

The School has organized 3 Staff Development Days for our staff members to enhance their professionalism. The latest one was held on 20th October. The member from the Council for Professional Conduct was invited to give a short talk with case studies on the awareness of the teachers' professional conduct. FIDES Camp
The FIDE Society (FIDES), a student organization which promotes the spiritual formation through student activities, organized a training camp for its members at the Don Bosco Camp on Cheung Chau Island from 15th to 17th October. Apart from participating in the adventure-based activities organized by the camp and the helpers (including the old boys), the participants had different activities regarding religious faith, such as Mass and Confession, and so on. After the camp, the students’ spiritual formation was further developed.

Activities celebrating the 61st anniversary of the People's Republic of China
As a vital part of Civic Education, our School organized a series of activities to celebrate the 61st anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, including Shanghai Expo sharing talks, board displays, firm shows, writing competitions, campus radio, visit to the National Education Centre and the impromptu speech competition (as shown in the photos).

Parent-Teacher Association Annual General Meeting
The PTA Annual General Meeting, which was held at the School Hall, was well attended by more than 200 parents and teachers. Apart from the participation in the AWE Programme exhibition, they attended a parenting talk provided by Mr. Eric Chan, a core member of the Family First Formation and also one of our School Managers. Also, the new executive committee was formed with Mr. Pierre Fung as the Chairperson, Ms. Alice Lee (parent), Mr. Chan Hoi To (parent), Mr. Dennis Law (teacher) and Mr. Ronald Hui (teacher) as the Vice-chairpersons. The former executive committee was highly praised for their valuable contributions to the success of the PTA in the past year.

In order to enhance students’ house spirit, the House Meetings have been organized in order to let them understand more about their house and learn from the virtues demonstrated by the explorers, who are the names of the four Houses: Hillary, Nansen, Piccard and Scott. The Hillary House captain and teachers were sharing their experiences and expectation with the House members.

As a vital part of the civic education, the School had the National Flag Raising Ceremony held on 30th September to celebrate the 61st anniversary of the founding of the Peoples’ Republic of China. Also, the declarations of the School Prefects and the Student Association were conducted. These student leaders declared they would serve their School and the students in the coming year in front of all teachers and students.

Community Charity Day 2010
The Day was an educational activity that provided an opportunity for our students to learn the virtues of caring and generosity by supporting the Dress Special Day organized by the Hong Kong Community Chest and the Raffle ticket sales organized by the Hong Kong Caritas. Also, in order to enhance students’ house identity, an inter-house fund-raising competition was held. Approximately $35,000 was raised by the students, teachers and staff.

As an integral part of student formation curriculum, all societies, clubs and uniform groups set up their booths to recruit new members. All F1 to F6 students selected their favourite societies to further extend their academic learning experience outside the classrooms. Student Association Election 2010
The forum and election of the Student Association were held. Nearly all students cast their votes to select the new cabinet from two teams. After an intensive campaign, the cabinet headed by CHAU Kwan Hang, Denis of 5M, was finally elected with more than 60% of votes. All students experienced a democratic election. The former Student Association was highly praised for doing a great job in the previous year.

The Summer Self-Direction Programme was in place to help our incoming S6 boys prepare for their Secondary 6 studies. The programme included a social service practice and a leadership training camp. All students were provided with lots of information regarding their plans of studying at a tertiary institution.

Summer Adaptation Programme
The Summer Adaptation Programme was designed to help our incoming S1 boys prepare for their secondary studies. The programme included school facility introduction, community visits, English immersion programmes, adolescent health programmes, and so on. The graduation ceremony, together with a parenting talk and a uniform group exhibition, was held on the last day and well-received by both parents and students.

Farewell Party for Dr. Edward Woo
Our Principal, Dr. Edward Woo was going to retire in this academic year. A Farewell Party was organized by the School at the Science Park for this eventful moment. Participants from the School Sponsoring Body, the Incorporated Management Committee, Tak Sun School and Tak Sun Kindergarten, present and former Parent-Teacher Association committee members, teachers, staff and alumni enjoyed a wonderful night. Our annual End-of-school-year Assembly was held on the last day of the School year. All internal and external awards were presented to the students to recognize their performances in the last academic year. In addition, since this is the 10th year of the School, service awards were given out to the teachers and staff who had served the School for 10 years.

This was the last inter-house event. All students participated in the debate between the Scott House and the Hillary House. Both sides did put lots of efforts preparing necessary materials for the competition. Finally, the Scott House won in the final debate. Congratulations to both Houses for their superb performances.

Geography subject has collaborated with the Oxfam for the Global Citizen Service Learning Programme, which aims at increasing students' awareness towards the situation of marginal labour and unfair trade in the world. Fair Trade Cup Charity Football Competition during Social & Humanities Week 2010 is one of the activities organized by 4J students. The fund raised was donated to the UNICEF.

In order to promote the learning of science, a Pi Week was organized from 14th to 20th March 2010 (as Pi is approximately equal to 3.14 and hence the week starts from 14 March). Different activities were organized to increase the awareness on the daily life mathematical activities such as Pi memorization games, board games, and theme talks and so on.

In order to enhance students’ value and attitude, especially of the anti-corruption, with the sponsorship from the ICAC (Independent Commission Against Corruption), the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre has performed a drama to show the importance of the anti-corruption. The PTA Annual General Meeting was held at the school hall and was well attended by more than 200 parents and teachers. Caring China Month
The Moral and Civic Education Committee has organized the Caring China Month to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Peoples’ Republic of China and enhance students’ civic awareness. In this month, different activities have organized including flag raising, assembly, prayer sessions, board displays, video shows, book sharing, theme talks, Putonghua radio and so on. It was a precious opportunity for our boys to learn the right attitude to care about others with the spirit of love and caring about China.

Community Charity Day
The Day was an educational activity that provided an opportunity for our students to learn the virtues of caring and generosity, by supporting the Dress Special Day organized by the Hong Kong Community Chest and the Raffle ticket sales organized by the Hong Kong Caritas. Also, in order to enhance students’ house identity, an inter-house fund-raising competition was held. Approximately $40,000 was raised by the students, teachers and staff.

Student Association Election
The forum and election of the Student Association were held. Nearly all students cast their votes to select the new cabinet for this year from two teams. After an intensive campaign, the cabinet headed by LEE Yat On, Dave of 6B was finally elected with more than 60% of votes. All students experienced a democratic election. The former Student Association was highly praised for doing a great job done in the past year.

The Summer Adaptation Programme was to help our incoming S1 boys prepare for their Secondary studies. The programme included school facility introduction, community visits, English immersion programmes, adolescent health programmes and so on. Speech Day is a milestone for our Form 5 and Form 7 students. The Guest of Honour of our 9th Annual Speech Day ceremony was Dr. Kwan Siu Kam, the Principal Education Officer in charge of the NSS curriculum. He gave an enlightening Keynote Address to our graduates regarding the challenges in store for them. Parenting programme 2009
As parents are the primary educators of our boys, the School emphasizes the importance of parenting. This year, the School provided 2 courses on Basic Parenting and Effective Parenting organized together with the cooperation of Family First Foundation and the Boys and Girls’ Club Association. Tak Sun Family Fun Day 2009
This is an annual event celebrating joyfulness among all families of Tak Sun schools. Starting with a Sunday Holy Mass, the Family Fun day offered wonderful variety shows, game booths, sports games, auctions, book fairs, charity sales, student performances, teacher performances, and much more. English Drama - Romeo and Juliet
The English drama Romeo and Juliet: A modern tale of love and tragedy was put on the stage on 6th March. This drama show was presented by Chunky Onion Productions, a professional educational drama company, and was funded by the English Enhancement Grant from the Education Bureau, the HKSAR Government. Some of our boys participated in the show as masters of ceremonies, actors and vocalists.

Prof. Sydney Chung, the former chair professor of the Faculty of Medicine of the CUHK, was invited to deliver a talk on joyfulness in reading on 5th March 2009. He shared his experience and then stayed behind for an autograph session together with a book exhibition. On the same day, Chan Yik Hei, a young inventor in Hong Kong, was invited to share his experience in his inventions. Our students enjoyed the talks and asked for their autographs.

The Second Parents' Forum 2008-2009
The Second Parents’ Forum (for F1 to F4 and F6 only) was organized on 27th February 2009. More than 500 parents in total attending this event were served with a dinner reception. The forums were kicked off by the Principal’s message and the introduction of the Tak Sun study skills framework. They were then split into different sessions according to formation levels: F1, F2 & F4 – formation level reports and forums; F3 – updates on the New Senior Secondary curriculum; F6 – introduction to university admission.

8th Annual Speech Day
This was the first time the School had organized its Speech Day at the end of the school year. It is a strong indication that the F5 and F7 students have completed their studies at Tak Sun. The Guest of Honour of our 8th Annual Speech Day ceremony was Professor Wong Po Choi, the Chairman of the Committee on Home-School Cooperation and the Professor of Department of Information Engineering, CUHK. He gave an enlightening Keynote Address to our graduates. The Valedictory Addresses were given by Ken Wong, F7 graduate of class 2008, who was studying in the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Hong Kong and Nelson Wong, F5 graduate of class 2008.

Donation for the Sichuan Earthquake Victims
In order to help and pray for the victims in this disaster, the Student Association, the Prefect Team and the Red Cross have jointly organized a series of donation activities from 16 to 21 May 2008. It included the Charity sale of stationery, board of blessing, donation counter, videos for the latest news, notice boards on causes and effects of earthquake, prayers and blessing, flag at half mast, standing in silence and so on. Finally, more than $30,000 has been collected and donated to the Red Cross. 8th Athletics Meet
The 8th Athletic Meets was held at Shatin Sports Ground on 3rd and 4th January. Under the flag of the house emblems, all students participating in the events played different roles such as athletes or cheering team members. Christmas Party
It is an annual event coordinated by the Student Association. It was composed of 3 parts, namely, a drama celebrating Christmas, a Christmas variety show and an individual Christmas celebration. Apart from enjoying the food and presents, students had a better understanding of the meaning of the Christmas – the birth of Jesus Christ.

Singing Contest
It is an annual event organized by the Student Association. After 2 qualifying rounds with more than 50 participating units, there were 3 finalists in the Group Section and 10 finalists in the Individual Section in the Final.

English Week
In order to further enhance an English-speaking environment and reading habit, the English Week was organized. Different activities were organized, including Drink of the Day, Spellathon, Lucky Draws, Campus Radio, Movie Shows, Fusion BBQ and so on. Students had great fun in the learning activities related to five English-speaking cultures.

Author's Book Sharing by Erica Li
Erica Li, one of the famous local authors, and Zendodric, an old boy of Tak Sun School, were invited to deliver a talk on joyfulness in reading. They shared with the students how reading can help develop their thinking skills. They then stayed behind for a signing sessions together with a book exhibition. Nearly 100 students asked for their autographs.

Blood Donation Day
Nearly 70 students and staff demonstrated the virtue of caring through actions. They donated blood on that day. Our Red Cross Committee (YU304) helped in the promotion of this event.

Class of 2014 Admission Information and Open Day
In order to provide relevant information to the parents about the Class of 2014 Admission, apart from the Information Session, an Open Day was organized for students to demonstrate their talents derived from the learning at Tak Sun. More than 300 people visited our school.

7th Annual Speech Day
It was a great day for us. We started the day with a flag raising ceremony. The Guest of Honour of our 7th Annual Speech Day ceremony was Dr. Thomas Chan Man Hung, Head of Chinese Business Centre, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and he gave a Keynote Address on the changes of the world in the past 30 years. The Valedictory Address was given by Au Lut Chi, F7 graduate of class 2007, who was studying in the School of Law of the City University of Hong Kong. [CLICK PHOTO FOR VIDEO]

Inter-house competitions
The monthly inter-house competition was officially kicked off by the basketball competition in November. Each house sent the strongest team to compete for the overall championship.

Parenting Courses
As parents are the primary educators of our boys, the School emphasises the importance of parenting. More than 100 parents enrolled in the annual basic parenting course organized with the cooperation of Family First Foundation and the Parent-Teacher Association.

New school facilities
In order to provide a Quality Education, the School has renovated and installed new facilities. The Performing Arts Theatre helps our boys to immerse in the arts education, including drama, musical, movies and speech training. The Language Studio provides a place for students to enhance their language skills, especially in English and Putonghua.

PTA Annual General Meeting
The PTA Annual General Meeting was held at the school hall and was well attended by more than 200 parents and teachers. A new executive committee was formed with Mr. Barnabas Leung as the Chairperson, Mr. Eamon Fung (parent), Ms Lereann Shum (parent), Mr. Mervyn Lam (teacher) and Mr. Tony Cheng (teacher) as the Vice-chairpersons. The former executive committee was highly praised for their valuable contributions to the success of the PTA in the past year.

Community Charity Day
The Day was an educational activity that provided an opportunity for our students to learn the virtues of caring and generosity, by supporting the Dress Special Day organized by the Hong Kong Community Chest and the Raffle ticket sales organized by the Hong Kong Caritas. Also, in order to enhance students’ house identity, an inter-house fund-raising competition was held. More than $42,000 was raised by the students, teachers and staff.

More than 300 parents attending this event were served with a dinner reception. The main purpose was to build a communication platform with parents for the better formation of their sons. Themes were different at different formation level: F1 & F2 - introducing the importance of parenting; F4 & F6 - motivating students’ learning.

Co-Curricular Activities Day
As an integral part of student formation curriculum, all societies, clubs and uniform groups set up their booths to recruit new members. All F1-F4 and F6 students selected their favourite societies to further extend their academic learning experience outside the classrooms.

Red Cross Inauguration Ceremony
The Red Cross Youth Unit 304 was officially set up in the presence of Mr. ML Tong, the Committee Chairperson of Red Cross Youth Units and Dr. Woo, the Principal. Thirteen students became Red Cross members and agreed to serve the society. The chief leader, LI Ho Wang, Kenneth of 7A, received the Honour Badge for his outstanding performance in the Red Cross activities in the ceremony.

Student Association Election
The forum and election of the Student Association were held. Nearly all students cast their votes to select the new cabinet for this year from two teams: Unity and Surmount. After an intensive campaign, Surmount, headed by MOK Yi Yun, Jonathan of 6B, was finally elected with 54% of votes. All students experienced a democratic election. The former Student Association was highly praised for doing a great job done in the past year.

Start-of-school-year Holy Mass
Our annual Start-of-school-year Holy Mass was held at the Cathedral in Central this year. The mass was celebrated by the School Chaplain, Fr. Paul Chung. As a vital part of the student formation curriculum, all students and teachers attended the Holy Mass.

Class of 2013 New Parents' Orientation Day
The event was organized for all new F1 parents in order to help them understand more about our school, particularly our mission and philosophy of education. The event was warmly supported by about 200 parents.

Summer Self-direction Programme (21-23 Aug 2007)
The Summer Self-direction Programme was to help our incoming F6 boys prepare for their studies in Secondary 6 Education. The programme included a leadership training camp, an English immersion programme and theme talks. All students enjoyed an exciting summer before the start of the new school year.

Summer Adaptation Programme (9-17 Aug 2007)
The Summer Adaptation Programme was to help our incoming F1 boys prepare for their studies in Secondary Education. The programme included school facility introduction, community visits, English immersion programmes, adolescent health programmes and so on. The graduation ceremony was held on the last day and all students enjoyed a wonderful summer.
