17th Annual Speech Day

Speech Day is a milestone for our Form 6 students. The Guest of Honour of our 17th Annual Speech Day ceremony was Dr. Joseph Ting Sun-pao, Adjunct Professor of Department of History of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He gave an enlightening keynote address to our graduates regarding the attitude they should have. In addition, we have invited Mr. Kevin Yip (Form 7 Graduate of Class of 2002) to give a sharing to our graduates. The valedictory address was given by LEUNG Tsz Shing of 6M and he is also the winner of the Jockey Club Shield 2015-2016. In addition, various awards were presented to recognize students' efforts. Tak Sun Summer Serenade
Tak Sun Summer Serenade was held on 19 May 2017 at the School Hall, starting from 7:30 pm. This was an annual show to showcase students' efforts and recognize their talents in Music, especially in the OSOSA (One-Student-One-Sport-and-Art) programmes. They had been preparing for this show for a long time and it was well received by parents and students alike.

10th Enrollment and 10th anniversary of Red Cross Youth Unit 304
The Tak Sun Red Cross (Hong Kong Red Cross Youth Unit 304) has celebrated its 10th anniversary of its establishment since 2007. 27 Red Cross members have enrolled that day and declared they will serve for the Red Cross under the supervision of Mr. Dennis Law, the Principal and the guest of honour, Mr. Li Chi Keung, the District Officer of the Sha Tin North district. Also, the last 10 Head Section Leaders and Ms. Erica Leung, the former District Officer who helped the establishment of this Youth Unit, have come back to join the celebration. Happy anniversary to YU304!

Form 1 and Form 2 Current Affairs Quiz Contests
F.1 and F.2 Current Affairs Quiz Contests were hosted by Business Club on 16 and 17 March lunchtime, in order to raise students' awareness of local, national and international current affairs.

The contests were highly competitive. All classes in each form took part and the results were:

Visit to the Hong Kong Monetary Authority
On 4 March 2017, 18 Form 3 to Form 5 students visited the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) in IFC Two, Central to understand the history of money and the current monetary system in Hong Kong. This activity was organized by Business Club for students interested in business and economics.

Visit to Yahoo
In order to provide more opportunities to understand the workplace environment, with the support of our Parent-Teacher Association, all Form 5 students had visited the Yahoo Headquarter on 2 March 2017. Their daily operations were introduced and the students could understand more about how a company operates. It is believed that such career-related activities can help students plan for their future.

The Teacher Manager Election for the Incorporated Management Committee was conducted on 24 February under the supervision of the Election Returning Officer, Mr. Dennis Law. Mr. Sum Wong and Mr. Ben Wong will be nominated as the School’s Teacher Manager and Alternative Teacher Manager.

Junior Achievement Personal Finance Programme 2017
L & S (Life and Society) Department proudly present the programme again in this school year with the support of Junior Achievement Hong Kong. The programme aims to enhance students' financial literacy and stimulate their interest in studying BAFS (Business, Accounting and Financial Studies) & Economics in senior school. 30 Form 3 students participated in the programme voluntarily. Thanks Mr. Samson Fok, the business volunteer, for conducting the programme in school.

Parent Manager Election
The Parent Manager Election for the Incorporated Management Committee was conducted on 21 January under the supervision of the Election Manager, Ms. Katherine So, the representative from the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). The counting of votes was held at 3:00 pm on the same day with the monitoring of Mr. Dennis Law, our Principal: The results are as follows:
Candidate 1. Ms. Catalina Chin (a Form 2 parent): 91 votes
Candidate 2. Ms. Cindy Chan (a Form 2 parent): 79 votes

Hence, according to the PTA constitutions, Ms. Chin and Ms. Chan will be nominated as the School’s Parent Manager and Alternative Parent Manager. Congratulations to Ms. Chin, Ms. Chan and the PTA. Also, the School would like to thank our previous Parent Manager, Ms. Teresa Fan and Ms. Charlotte Tong, for their contributions to the School.

Re-opening of school library
After 6-month renovation work, the school library is re-opened to all school members on 9 January 2017 (Monday). The school library is now equipped with some new features such as tutorial rooms, audio-visual equipment & reading corners. Students can have an even better reading and studying environment in school library. In response to the re-opening of school library, all junior form classes are arranged to have a library visit during class-teacher period in January. Book floating activity and Reading Quiz were held to raise students' reading interest in school library.

Alumni Homecoming Day, Alumni Association and Alumni Manager Election
This was an annual School event engaging all old boys coming back to their alma mater, which was mainly organized by the Tak Sun Secondary School Alumni Association. Ball games and board games were arranged together with the barbeque. Around 40 old boys and teachers coming back to support. In addition, the Annual General Meeting was held and Lai Wai Tung (Form 5 Graduates of Class of 2008) was nominated as the Alumni Manager for the next term.

Visit to Legislative Council
20 Form 1 students are invited to join the visit to Legislative Council on 7 January 2017 (Saturday). The activity enrich their knowledge on the Legislative Council elections & the historical development of Legislative Council in the past century. They got involved in a role-play to understand the procedure of enacting a law in Hong Kong.

Get Set Go Financial Literacy Workshop
Life and Society Subject Department and Career & Life Planning Committee invites Hong Kong Family Welfare Society to organize the Get Set Go Financial Literacy Workshop for Form 3 students on 6 January 2017 (Friday). The simulation activity enable students to learn how to manage their wealth in order to achieve their personal goals. More than 30 volunteers were recruited in helping the events. The event is well received by our students.

Visit of Tak Sun School
As a tradition, more than 120 Primary 6 boys and teachers from our primary school, Tak Sun School, visited our School campus so that they can understand more about secondary school life.

17th Athletics Meet
The 17th Athletics Meet was held at Ma On Shan Sports Ground on 10th and 11th November. Mr. Henry Kwok, Principal of Tak Sun School, was invited as the guest of honour to present the prizes. Under the flags of the house emblems, all students participating in the events played different roles, such as athletes or cheering team members. Scott House became the overall champion again! Congratulations!

Form 2 visit to Court of Final Appeal
On 2 November 2016, 25 Form 2 students visited the Court of Final Appeal, a legal monument constructed in 1912, to learn the history of the building as well as the functions of Hong Kong's judiciary. During the visit, students also had a chance to talk to The Hon Mr Justice Wally Yeung, Vice President of the Court of Appeal of the High Court. The visit is an enrichment activity jointly offered by History Studies and Life & Society subject panels.

2016-17 Progress Grant Fee Remission
The School has offered a total of 63 Progress Grants to the students in need, which is equivalent to the amount of $1,071,400. Also, we offered Textbook sponsorship for some of them as well, which is equivalent to the amount of $44,500. We believe that it will help our students study well in our School.

2016-17 Grants for Brothers Scheme
As Tak Sun emphasizes family ties, we encourage boys from the same family to study together. Hence, we offer a grant worth $11,000 (50% of annual school fee) to younger brothers entering the school. The School has offered 15 Grants for Brother Scheme, which is equivalent to the amount of $165,000.

2016-17 Family Grant
The Tak Sun mission is to strengthen and unite the family, enabling parents to exercise their rights and duties as first educators of their children. As a way of supporting families, this grant covers 100% of the annual school fee of HK $22,000 and is given to any incoming Form 1 student with two siblings or more, brothers or sisters. This year, the School has offered 48 Family Grants, which is equivalent to the amount of $1,056,000.

2016-17 Sportsman and Musician Scholarships Awards
The school is happy to announce that 15 students have been awarded scholarships for their outstanding performance. Most of them have reached the highest level in their sport and have represented Hong Kong at national and international level. Their scholarship covers full and partial school fee remission. The school congratulates and encourages them in their striving for sporting excellence. The School has offered 14 Full Scholarship and 1 Half Scholarship, which is equivalent to the amount of $319,000.

Potential Development Scholarship
The school is to encourage Primary 6 students with outstanding qualities to award the PD Scholarship. The scholarship covers full school fee remission for one year in Form 1, renewable upon review for six consecutive years until Form 6. This year, the School has offered 6 Scholarships, which is equivalent to the amount of $132,000.

Academic Achievement Scholarship
The goal of the AA Scholarship is to encourage academic excellence in our students. Candidates should obtain the top five year-end score in the form in the previous academic year, plus a satisfactory conduct report. The scholarship covers full and partial school fee remission. This year, the School has offered 12 Full Scholarships and 9 Half Scholarships, which is equivalent to the amount of $363,000.

Mr. Jasper Tsang, former President of LEGCO visits for sharing session
The Hon Jasper Tsang, the former President of LEGCO, came to have a conversation with our Form 5 students, sharing his opinions on current political issues and how the teenagers participated in politics. Our students learned a lot from Mr. Tsang’s wide experience and deep insights into politics in Hong Kong and it will definitely benefit student learning in Liberal Studies and Civic Education.

Parent-Teacher Association Annual General Meeting
TSSS PTA AGM was held on 15 October (Saturday) from 2:30 to 4:45 pm. Starting from 2:30 pm, there is a parenting seminar conducted by Mr. Francis MAK, a famous DJ. More than 100 PTA members attended.

During the AGM starting at around 4:00 pm, the new PTA committee for school year 2016-17 was elected and the posts are confirmed in their first committee meeting:

Vice-Chairperson: Mr. Peter Mak & Ms. Katherine So
Secretary: Ms. Charlotte Tong
Treasurer: Ms. Maggie Yau
Other parent members include Ms. Helen Liu (Parenting Education), Catalina Chin (Academic and Career), Mr. Vincent Lau (Sports and Recreation) and Ms. Cindy Chan (Student Welfare)

School representatives are Mr. Eric Kwan (Vice-Chairman) Mr. Ronald Hui (Secretary) and Mr. Mervyn Lam (Treasurer). The Statutory Member is Mr. Dennis Law (Principal)

In addition, Ms. Daisy Ng and Mr. Barry Ng were invited to the PTA Consultants 2016-17.

Community Charity Day
The Day was an educational activity that provided an opportunity for our students to learn the virtues of caring and generosity by supporting the Dress Casual Day organized by the Hong Kong Community Chest and the Raffle ticket sales organized by the Hong Kong Caritas. Also, in order to enhance students’ house identity, an inter-house fund-raising competition was held. Around $50,000 was raised by the students, teachers and staff.

Declaration of Student Association, School Prefects and 4 Houses
The declarations of the Student Association, School Prefects and 4 Houses were conducted in the assemblies on 4 October 2016. The Head Prefect led his Prefect Team, the Chairman of Student Association led his Committee members and the House Captains led their committees to declare they would serve their School and the students in the coming year in front of all teachers and students. Good Book sharing session
With a very good feedback in the last 3 years, the School Library invited Ms. Fan Kien Mei (范建梅老師) again to deliver a good book recommendation session to our junior form students. This session is well received and all recommended books were on display for reading after the session. After that, there is a book exhibition for 2 days.

Student Association Election
The forum and election of the Student Association were held on 21 September 2016. All students had experienced a democratic election by actively casting their votes to select the new cabinet. Candidate 1: Paleta (headed by 5T LAW Cheuk Hung Harris) won the election. Congratulations!

Our annual Start-of-school-year Holy Mass was held at the School Hall. The mass was celebrated by the School Chaplain, Fr. Paul Chung. All students and teachers attended the Holy Mass, which is a vital part of the student formation curriculum.

The School is pleased to announce that Mr. Dennis Law has been appointed as the 4th Principal of our School after Dr. Peter Herbert’s retirement. Dr. Herbert has been appointed as the Supervisor of our School replacing Mr. Anthony Chan. Congratulations to Mr. Law and Dr. Herbert and thank you for Mr. Chan’s contributions in the last few years.

V2C2 (Virtue Video Clip Competition) Prize Presentation
The School emphasizes virtue formation as a part of whole-person development. All classes were invited to prepare virtue video clips to promote correct values and attitudes among the students and their products were shown in the school assemblies. In order to recognize students’ efforts, a prize presentation was arranged and different prizes were given out including Directing, Editing, Story-making and Actors.

Visit to CUHK Economics Project Exhibition
Form 5 Economics students visited the CUHK Economics Project Exhibition on 22 April 2016. In the exhibition, they had the opportunities to learn how different economic concepts or theories could be applied to explain the real-life phenomena, which was a key element in the HKDSE Economics curriculum. We would like to express our appreciation to the faculty members of CUHK Economics Department for providing all the supports during the visit.

Visit to HKDI
F.4 Visual Art students visited the fashion exhibition in HKDI (Hong Kong Design Institute) at Tiu Keng Leng on 21 April 2016. In this exhibition, they had the opportunity to learn about entries requirement, course content of the fashion design, fashion business and image design. Also, Miss Joanne Lau (stream leader of Fashion design) also show students some portfolios and sketchbooks for preparation in future interview. We would like to express our appreciation to HKDI for providing all the supports during the visit.

Learning to be a DJ – a job shadowing experience
Our school emphasizes on students’ preparation for their career. Our Career and Life Planning Committee and our Parent-Teacher Association have organized a job shadowing activity for our students. 3 students from Form 4 visited Radio-Television Hong Kong (RTHK) and tried to experience the DJ’s daily work. They had some first-hand “On-Air” experience and tried to announce the weather report. It is a very valuable experience for our boys.

Staff Development Day
The School organized 3 Staff Development Days for our teachers and staff in order to help them enhance their profession. The first one was arranged in October and teachers could freely select their preference to attend some lectures or workshops on handling learner diversity and learning some IT in learning. The second one was held in January and teachers attended their subject meetings to review the student performance and also attended a workshop on tutoring. The last one was held in March, the day before the Easter break. Teachers and staff were formed in teams and then participated in different team-building activities and which enhanced the team spirit and the morale of all school staff.

F.2 HS / RSE Visit to Caine Road Cathedral
24 selected Form 2 students visited The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, a Grade 1 Historical Building built in 1888. Students learned not only the history of Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong, but also that of the Cathedral itself as a masterpiece of Gothic architecture.

The visit was jointly organized by the subject panels of History Studies and Religious Studies and Ethics as a cross-curricular enrichment activity.

Prevention of Injury and sport taping workshop
Faculty of Medicine from the Chinese University of Hong Kong held a workshop for our students from DSE - PE Classes, School Sports Teams as well as Team Coaches and teachers on 11th March at school hall after-school. Around 60 students and teachers participated in the workshop and they have a lot of skills to prevent injury.

Junior Achievement Personal Finance Programme
Around 20 Form 3 students joined the workshop of the Junior Achievement Personal Finance Programme to learn more about the stock trading, planning a budget & making rational financial decisions under various situations. All these activities can let them to have a better understanding towards the senior form elective subjects such as Business, Accounting and Financial Studies and Economics. The activity was conducted by Mr. Douglas Ng, a business volunteer recruited by Junior Achievement Hong Kong.

Water Rocket Competition 2016
The Science Stream organized the annual Water Rocket Competition for all Form 2 students in order to enhance their practical learning. Through this activity, the students could experience the application of scientific knowledge to daily life. This year, we have invited our USA exchanges students to be the helpers of the events. The students enjoyed very much. Congratulations to Nansen House as they won the Inter-House competition!

15 Form 2 – Form 4 students joined the visit to Hong Kong Monetary Authority. They learnt more about the development of financial centre in Hong Kong and the process of note-printing.

Lowest Recorded Temperature by the weather station at TSSS

Our weather station has been operating for more than seven years, which is a good tool for alerting students about the temperature at our School. Today, 24th January 2016, we have recorded 3.8 degree Celsius, which is a new record of lowest temperature since its establishment. The dew point was even lower than 0 degree! With this indicator, our students and the School can be alerted to implement corresponding precautionary measures against this low temperature. On 18th December, 2015, 17 senior geography students visited the Western Salt Water Service Reservoirs which was built in 2009. Releasing surface land for construction of HKU Centennial Campus while avoiding massive excavation as well as minimizing visual and environmental impacts, the construction of the Reservoirs was voted as one of "The Hong Kong People Engineering Wonders in the 21st Century" organized by The Hong Kong institution of Engineers in 2013. It is a great opportunity for the students to appreciate the beauty of engineering works that satisfy the sake of sustainability.

30 F.3 students were selected to take part in the F.3 Business Fundamentals enrichment class from 5th to 26th November 2015. Four interactive workshops on different business and accounting topics were held after school, in order to enhance students' relevant knowledge and skills and to build a better foundation for studying BAFS in senior form.

Class of 2022 Admission Information Day
In order to provide relevant information to the parents about the Class of 2022 Admission, an Information Session together with exhibitions were organized. Around 300 people attended in our information session and visited our School. This year, we have further implemented an online application system to provide a more user-friendly way for the parents.

16th Athletics Meet
The 16th Athletics Meet was held at Ma On Shan Sports Ground on 29th and 30th October. Dr. Steven Tam was invited as the guest of honour to present the prizes. Under the flags of the house emblems, all students participating in the events played different roles, such as athletes or cheering team members. Scott House became the overall champion! The school is happy to announce that 16 students have been awarded scholarships for their outstanding performance. The Tak Sun mission is to strengthen and unite the family, enabling parents to exercise their rights and duties as first educators of their children. As a way of supporting families, this grant covers 100% of the annual school fee of HK $22,000 and is given to any incoming Form 1 student with two siblings or more, brothers or sisters. Form 3 History Studies Museum Visit
24 selected F.3 students visited the Hong Kong Coastal Defense Museum on 28 October 2015 for a special exhibition titled “Fighting as One: Reminders of the Eight Years’ War of Resistance in Guangdong and Hong Kong”. From the 65 sets of invaluable artefacts and historical photos, students learned how Guangdong and Hong Kong people jointly lit the beacon of struggle in the War of Resistance against Japan. It is co-organized by History Club, the visit was an enrichment activity offered annually by the subject of History Studies.

Parent-Teacher Association Annual General Meeting
TSSS PTA AGM was held on 24 October (Saturday) from 2:30 to 4:30 pm. Starting from 2:30 pm, there is a parenting seminar conducted by Mr. Denys LOOK from Hong Kong Mediation Alliance. Around 100 PTA members attended.

Results of the Water Testing
The School was concerned about the reports of lead in drinking water. 14 samples of drinking water from G/F to 7/F were tested for 4 heavy metals: Lead, Cadmium, Chromium and Nickel. The preliminary report has come back and all samples are under the limit.

Community Charity Day
The Day was an educational activity that provided an opportunity for our students to learn the virtues of caring and generosity by supporting the Dress Casual Day organized by the Hong Kong Community Chest and the Raffle ticket sales organized by the Hong Kong Caritas. Also, in order to enhance students’ house identity, an inter-house fund-raising competition was held. Approximately $38,000 was raised by the students, teachers and staff.

Potential Development Scholarship
The school is to encourage Primary 6 students with outstanding qualities to award the PD Scholarship. The scholarship covers full school fee remission for one year in Form 1, renewable upon review for six consecutive years until Form 6. Anniversary Mass
2015 marks the 85th Anniversary of our Primary School, Tak Sun School and our Kindergarten, Tak Sun Private Kindergarten, as well as the 15th Anniversary of Tak Sun Secondary School. Three schools celebrated together in the Joint Anniversary Mass on 30th June 2015 (Tuesday) at 7:00 pm in the Hong Kong Cathedral. Our former school chaplain and the former primary school supervisor, Bishop Stephen Lee, Auxiliary Bishop of Hong Kong, celebrated the Mass.

15th Speech Day
Speech Day is a milestone for our Form 6 students. The Guest of Honour of our 15th Annual Speech Day ceremony was Prof. Emily M. Nason, Associate Dean of the HKUST Business School. She gave an enlightening keynote address to our graduates regarding the attitude they should have. In addition, we have invited Mr. Arnold TAI (Form 7 Graduate of Class of 2007) to give a sharing to our graduates. The valedictory address was given by KWAN Ka Leong of 6M and he is also the winner of the Jockey Club Shield 2013-2014. In addition, various awards were presented to recognize students' efforts. Our new careers magazine - 明志
A Careers and Lifelong Planning Committee was set up this year with support from a recurring government grant. This team will give updates and information about college education and careers on a special page in the Student Formation Section of the school website. Each year the team will produce a magazine “明志” (Mission) - to help students, teachers and parents understand the importance of career planning. C Grade Inter-class Football Contest Final
The C Grade Inter-class Football Contest Final, organized by the Student Association, was played between classes 2J and 1J on 29 May. The match ended in a draw and 2J won the title on penalties.

The match concluded this year's Inter-class Football and Basketball Contests with all the 30 classes participating in over 50 matches.

Well done all the players and referees as well as the Student Association committee members!

Visit to Legislative Council
Twenty Form 1 boys visited the Legislative Council Complex on 23 May 2015 for understanding the legislation procedure and the formation of Legislative Council. This was an enrichment activity of Form 1 Life and Society Class in order to give them an in-depth understanding about the historical development and functions of the council in Hong Kong.

Visit to New Life Farm
Fifteen students visited the New Life Farm in Tuen Mun on 16 May. Business Club organized the activity to enhance students' understanding about the operation of a social enterprise, which provide training and employment opportunities for people in recovery of mental illness. Participants had the chance to make recycled paper and engage in farm work to feel the hardship of being a farmer.

Tak Sun Summer Serenade was held on 15th May 2015 at the School Hall, starting from 7:30 pm. This was an annual show to showcase students' efforts and recognize their talents in Music, especially in the OSOSA (One-Student-One-Sport-and-Art) programmes. They had been preparing for this show for a long time and it was well received by parents and students alike.

In-school History Debate Friendly
History Studies subject panel and Chinese Debate Team co-organised two in-school history debate friendlies on 20 April and 27 April for junior and senior students respectively. The purpose is to arouse students' interest in historical knowledge as well as debating skills.

The junior form friendly was won by 2J Yim Jeston, 2J Wong Siu Hei, 2W Yau Chun Chong Andy and 3M Chow Cheuk Him.

The senior form friendly was won by 5P Chow Hong Man, 5J Lam Man Hin, 5J Wu Man Lap and 5J Li Cheuk Lok Oscar.

More than 50 Form 3 & Form 4 students participate in the stock trading simulation game during 23-27 March 2015. The activity aims to enhance students' understanding towards the operation of stock market and help them to analyze the relationship between current issues and the fluctuations of stock prices.

Junior Achievement Personal Finance Programme
Thirty Form 3 boys joined the JA Personal Finance Programme to learn more about personal finance management. Mr. Richie Lo from HSBC conduct the interactive workshop which enable them to learn how to write a cheque, drawbacks from using credit card and stock market operation etc. This activity enable the students to learn more about personal finance and cultivate their interest on studying business subjects in senior form.

The Science Stream organized the annual Water Rocket Competition for all Form 2 students in order to enhance their practical learning. Through this activity, the students could experience the application of scientific knowledge to daily life. This year, we have invited our USA exchanges students to be the helpers as well as the MC of the events. The students enjoyed very much. Visit to Hong Kong Monetary Authority
Twenty-six Form 3 and 4 boys visited the Hong Kong Monetary Authority Exhibition Gallery on 7th March 2015 for an exhibition of historical development of Hong Kong monetary & financial system and features of banknotes in Hong Kong. This activity enable the students to learn more about the development of financial sector in Hong Kong and give me an idea about the business subjects in senior-form curriculum.

Chinese calligraphy practices
The Chinese department had organized a Chinese calligraphy practice to celebrate the Lunar New Year. Apart from our students, all USA exchange students and their teacher were invited to join. They practices some Chinese writing and making Chinese New Year antithetical couplets. We believed they enjoyed the Chinese culture.

Wushu Demonstration
The School organized a Wushu demonstration on 25 February 2015 at the School Hall after-school by Hong Kong Youth Team members, including 2W CHAN Yee Lok, 4M LAU Tsz Hong and 6J LAU Tsz Wing. Apart from our students, the USA exchange students also participated in the event and practiced some of the Wushu forms. They all enjoyed a great afternoon and understood more about the Chinese Wushu traditions.

Leadership training
Last Saturday (31 January), 22 student leaders including SA Committee, Head Prefects, Prefect Leaders, and House Committee joined the activity. They learned basic leadership concepts and effective communication skills through various group activities and discussions. Two alumni, Jonathan Mok (Form 7 Graduate of Class of 2009) and Gabriel Tai (Form 7 Graduate of Class of 2012), also joined the session as trainers.

Parent Manager Election
The Parent Manager Election for the Incorporated Management Committee was conducted on 17th January under the supervision of the Election Manager, Ms. Ellis Li, the representative from the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). The counting of votes was held at 3:00 pm on the same day with the monitoring of Dr. Peter Herbert, our Principal: The results are as follows:
Candidate 1. Mr. Peter Mak (a Form 3 parent): 230 votes
Candidate 2. Ms. Teresa Fan (a Form 3 parent): 139 votes

Hence, according to the PTA constitutions, Mr. Peter Mak and Ms. Teresa Fan will be nominated as the School’s Parent Manager and Alternative Parent Manager. Congratulations to Mr. Mak, Ms. Fan and the PTA. Also, the School would like to thank our previous Parent Manager, Mrs. Catherine Sze, for her contributions to the School.

Alumni Homecoming Day
This was an annual School event engaging all old boys coming back to their alma mater, which was mainly organized by the Tak Sun Secondary School Alumni Association. Ball games and board games were arranged together with the barbeque. More than 70 old boys and teachers coming back to support. In addition, the Annual General Meeting was held and Yip Siu Kwan, Jeff (Form 7 Graduates of Class of 2002) was nominated as the Alumni Manager for the next term. After the event, some of them even went outside for another gathering again!

14th Speech Day
Speech Day is a milestone for our Form 6 students. The Guest of Honour of our 14th Annual Speech Day ceremony was Mr. Carson Wen, BBS, JP, Former Deputy, National People's Congress of the Peoples’ Republic of China and he is also an old boy of Tak Sun School. He gave an enlightening keynote address to our graduates regarding the attitude they should have. The valedictory address was given by LEUNG Kai Hang, Joshua of 6M and the winner of the Jockey Club Shield 2012-2013 is WONG Chun Hei of 6M. V2C2 (Virtue Video Clip Competition) Prize Presentation
The School emphasizes virtue formation as a part of whole-person development. All classes were invited to prepare virtue video clips to promote correct values and attitudes among the students and their products were shown in the school assemblies. In order to recognize students’ efforts, a prize presentation was arranged and different prizes were given out including Directing, Editing, Story-making and Actors.

Handmade Chocolates from parents
As 14th March is called “White Valentine’s Day”, our parents from the Parent-Teacher Association have prepared some home-made chocolates for our teachers and staff as a token of thanks for the efforts done to their sons. It definitely showed the close relationship between our parents and the School.

Good book sharing session
It is always a challenging task to select a good book in school library. School Library invited Ms. Fan Kien Mei (范建梅老師), the founder of PTU Promisingbookstore and an experienced Chinese teacher, to deliver a good book recommendation session to our junior form students. The session is well received and all recommended books were on display for reading after the session.

Mock HKDSE Result Release
In order to let our Form 6 students be familiar with the arrangements of the HKDSE result release and their possible pathways after their graduation, a special workshop was arranged in the afternoon before their last day on 28th February. Activity Week Experience (AWE) Programme
The Activity Week Experience (AWE) Programme is a core part of the school curriculum for all Form 1 to Form 5 students in the realm of experiential learning. This year, it was held from 10th February to 14th February 2014 with 23 programmes, including 9 overseas programmes, 6 mainland programmes and 8 local programmes. Parent Manager Election
The Parent Manager Election for the Incorporated Management Committee was conducted on 18th January under the supervision of the Election Manager, Mr. Barry Ng, the representative from the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). The counting of votes was held at 2:00 pm on the same day: The results are as follows:
Candidate 1. Mrs. Catherine Sze (a Form 5 parent): 216 votes
Candidate 2. Mr. Peter Mak (a Form 2 parent): 114 votes

Hence, according to the PTA constitutions, Mrs. Catherine Sze and Mr. Peter Mak will be nominated as the School’s Parent Manager and Alternative Parent Manager. Congratulations to Mrs. Sze, Mr. Mak and the PTA.

Alumni Homecoming Day
This was an annual School event engaging all old boys coming back to their alma mater, which was mainly organized by the Tak Sun Secondary School Alumni Association. Ball games and board games were arranged together with the barbeque. More than 60 old boys and teachers coming back to support. In addition, the Annual General Meeting was held and the new Executive Committee was formed. After the event, some of them even went outside for another gathering again!

Octopus systems and eClass systems under QEF

2013-14 Family Grant
The Tak Sun mission is to strengthen and unite the family, enabling parents to exercise their rights and duties as first educators of their children. As a way of supporting families, this grant covers 100% of the annual school fee of HK $22,000 and is given to any incoming Form 1 student with two siblings or more, brothers or sisters. This year, the School has offered 14 Family Grant, which is equivalent to the amount of $308,000.

2013-14 Grants for Brothers Scheme
As Tak Sun emphasizes family ties, we encourage boys from the same family to study together. Hence, we offer a grant worth $11,000 (50% of annual school fee) to younger brothers entering the school. The School has offered 16 Grants for Brother Scheme, which is equivalent to the amount of $176,000.

14th Athletics Meet
The 14th Athletics Meet was held at Ma On Shan Sports Ground on 31st October and 1st November. Under the flags of the house emblems, all students participating in the events played different roles, such as athletes or cheering team members. Nansen House became the overall champion in all grades! Congratulations!

Reading Programme - Author sharing
As a part of the Main Concerns, the school promotes Reading culture in the coming years. In order to provide a reading atmosphere, the School organized talks and book sharing on joyfulness in reading. On 15th October, as a kick-off of the Reading programme, the School invited Ms. Philic Man to share her experience in writing. The students enjoyed very much.

Parent-Teacher Association Annual General Meeting
The Tak Sun Secondary School PTA Annual General Meeting was held on 12 October (Saturday) from 2.30 to 4.30 pm. Starting from 2:30 pm, there is a parenting seminar conducted by Ms. CHAN from CUHK. More than 150 PTA members attended.

Then, the AGM elected the new PTA committee for school year 2013-14. The new committee is as follows:

Community Charity Day
The Day was an educational activity that provided an opportunity for our students to learn the virtues of caring and generosity by supporting the Dress Casual Day organized by the Hong Kong Community Chest and the Raffle ticket sales organized by the Hong Kong Caritas. Also, in order to enhance students’ house identity, an inter-house fund-raising competition was held. More than $40,000 was raised by the students, teachers and staff.

The forum and election of the Student Association were held on 25 September 2013. Nearly all students cast their votes to select the new cabinet. All students experienced a democratic election. The former Student Association was highly praised for doing a great job in the previous year. Utopia won the election. Congratulations!

Teacher-Students Book Sharing Sessions
Teacher-Student Book Sharing Sessions were organized nearly once a month every year in order to promote reading among students. This is the last session of this year, apart from having two teachers, Mr. Jerome Leung and Mr. Yu Yat Hon to share the books with our student, 4J TAM Wai Yin, Ian in this session, Mr. Chan Kim Ching, a geography researcher, was invited to share his books also. Mr. Chan's book is also closely related to the curricula in the junior form Contemporary Studies as well as senior form Geography. Our students enjoyed the session very much.

Tak Sun Family Walkathon
Instead of having Tak Sun Family Fun Day, we have organized Tak Sun Family Walkathon as important event celebrating joyfulness among all families of Tak Sun schools, including parents, students, teachers and alumni of Tak Sun Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary schools. The route of the Walkathon began at the School and continued along the Ma On Shan Promenade as far as Wu Kai Sha. Approximately 800 participants had a wonderful leisure walk, and also celebrating the Mothers' Day and the 12th Anniversary of Tak Sun Secondary School inauguration under a wonderful weather.

Visit to Hong Kong Museum of History
History Department organized a visit to the Hong Kong Museum of History for 31 Form 2 students on 9 May 2013. Students got the chance to learn about the history of ancient Mesopotamia. The visit enriched their knowledge about the Mesopotamian civilization which witnessed the flowering of sophisticated art and literature together with remarkable achievements in intellectual, spiritual and scientific realms that still have a profound influence on modern life nowadays.

NSS subject selection workshop
In order to help our Form 3 students understand more about the elective choice in their Senior Secondary curriculum, the School Social Worker and the Careers Team organized a workshop for them to let them understand the situation they might face on that day and provide them with guidance on how to choose their electives and their careers. This workshop was well received by students.

Visit to Legislative Council
Contemporary Studies Department organized a visit to Legislative Council for 22 F.2 students on 27/3/2013. Students have the chance to learn about the historical development of Legislative council, functions of the council and talk to Legislative councilors, Dr. Elizabeth Quat and Mr. Gary FAN Kwok-wai. This can enrich their knowledge about the Legislative council.

JA Advance Personal Finance Programme
The programme aims at enriching students' financial literacy and personal management. 25 students from F.3 & F.4 participated in the programme. Mr. Jonathan Poon from HSBC gave students advice and sharing about financial management. The programme was well received by our students.

In order to provide a correct concept of fairness, the School has invited the ICAC (Independent Commission Against Corruption) to put up a drama for our students. This is a good example on promoting civic education through daily life examples.

Water Rocket Competition 2013
The Science Stream organized a Water Rocket Competition for all Form 2 students in order to enhance their practical learning. Through this activity, the students could experience the application of scientific knowledge to daily life. This year, there is a new record with more than 60 m! Also, Piccard House won the Inter-House competition! Congratulations!

Red Cross Overnight Camp
Our Red Cross (Youth Unit 304) had arranged an overnight camp for 30 members from our Form 1 students at School. During the camp, they have learnt lots of collaboration skills which will help them in the future and also some lectures were conducted to extend their learning in Red Cross. The programme was well received by the students.

Scout Wild Camp Training
Our Scouts has arranged an overnight camp for 50 members from our Form 1 to Form 5 students (majority are Form 1 and Form 2 students) at Tai Po Tung Tsz Scout Centre. Apart from the basic skills on camping, they have learnt lots of other skills like collaboration and communication techniques. Our students had a wonderful and exciting experience.

Parent Manager Election
The Parent Manager Election for the Incorporated Management Committee commenced on 9th November under the supervision of the Election Manager, Mr. Lawrence Lai, the Vice-chairman of our Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). The counting of votes was held at 7:30 pm on 16th November. We have received 1125 votes. The winners are as follows:
Candidate 1. Mrs. Catherine Sze (a Form 4 parent): 590 votes
Candidate 3. Mr. Pierre Fung (a Form 6 parent): 396 votes

Hence, according to the PTA constitutions, Mrs. Catherine Sze and Mr. Pierre Fung will be nominated as the School’s Parent Manager and Alternative Parent Manager. We would like to thank for the support from the other candidates, Mr. Andre Wai (a Form 1 parent) and Ms. Vivian Yip (a Form 4 parent). Congratulations to Mrs. Sze, Mr. Fung and the PTA.

Blood Donation 2012
Around 70 students and staff donated blood on that day, which is a new record in our history. They demonstrated the virtue of caring through their enthusiastic support to the event.

Grants for Brothers Scheme
As Tak Sun emphasizes family ties, we encourage boys from the same family to study together. Hence, we have established a new grant worth $11,000 (50% of annual school fee) to younger brothers entering the school. This year, 13 new students have been awarded the grants. We welcome them to the Tak Sun family!

The School has offered a total 37 Progress Grants to the students in need, which is equivalent to the amount of $574,000. We believe that it will help our boys study well in our School.

2012-13 Sportsman Scholarships Awards
The school is happy to announce that the following students have been awarded scholarships for their outstanding performance. Most of them have reached the highest level in their sport and have represented Hong Kong at national and international level. Their scholarship covers full and partial school fee remission. The school congratulates and encourages them in their striving for sporting excellence.

  3. 3J YUNG Shek Him is now a member of National Squad Training Team in Roller Speed Skating
  4. 4J CHENG Long Wai is the champion of HK U14 Fencing Overall ranking 2012 (Men’s Sabre)
  5. 4P LAU Tsz Wing, Vincent is a member of the Hong Kong Youth Wushu Team and he is champion in various events of the Hong Kong Open Wushu Championships 2012
  6. 5M LAU Cheuk Yin, Matthew represented Hong Kong to participate in Europe Aged Handball Tournament 2011
  7. 6M CHEUNG Shun Kan Kelvin represented Hong Kong to participate in Asian Youth Handball Championships 2012 at Qatar, Taiwan Tienjian Handball Competition 2011

  2. 4W YUEN Cheuk Bun, Benjamin got outstanding results in Cross Country Competitions
  3. 6J SUEN Yui Hin, Felix got the 3rd place in Hong Kong Artistic Gymnastics Championships
  4. 6W WONG Tung Lok Jack is the HKSSF best athlete and he got outstanding results in various swimming competitions

Tak Sun PTA 12th AGM and new PTA Committee
The Tak Sun Secondary School PTA Annual General Meeting was held on 13th October (Saturday) from 2.30 to 4.30 pm. Starting from 2:30 pm, there is a parenting seminar conducted by Principal Alman Chan Siu Cheuk. More than 200 PTA members attended.

Then, the AGM elected the new PTA committee for school year 2012-13. The new committee is as follows:

Staff Development Day
The School has organized 3 Staff Development Days for our staff members to enhance their professionalism. The first one this year was held on 13th October. Mr. Tang Yiu Nam, Manager of the Centre for Development and Research in Small Class Teaching was invited to give a short talk on preparation for External School Review. Our teachers learnt a lot from the different talks that day.

13th Athletics Meet
The 13th Athletics Meet was held at Ma On Shan Sports Ground on 3rd and 4th October. Under the flags of the house emblems, all students participating in the events played different roles, such as athletes or cheering team members. Hillary House became the overall champion in all grades! Congratulations!

Handmade Mooncakes from parents
With the mid-Autumn Festival around the corner, our parents from the Parent-Teacher Association has prepared some home-made "snowy moon cakes" for our teachers and staff as a token of thanks for the efforts done to their sons. It definitely showed the close relationship between our parents and the School.

Student Association Election
The forum and election of the Student Association were held. Nearly all students cast their votes to select the new cabinet. All students experienced a democratic election. The former Student Association was highly praised for doing a great job in the previous year. Reborn won the election. Congratulations!

Academic Achievement Scholarship Winners
This year, the School introduced this Academic Achievement Scholarship to recognize students' efforts in the last academic year. A total of 13 students received this scholarship which covers full and partial school fee remission.

Potential Development Scholarship Winners
This year an additional 6 students have been awarded this scholarship due to their outstanding academic performance and behavior:

Form 1 winners are: 1P LAI Ho Lim and LO Man Him. Their scholarships cover 6-years school fee ($132,000) PLUS a $20,000 subsidy for the Activity Week Experience (AWE) Programme.

Form 4 winners are: 4M LI King Man and TAM Sze Kit, 4J CHAN Tsz Ho and HEUNG Johnny. Their scholarships cover three-year full school fee subsidy ($66,000).

Start-of-school-year Holy Mass
Our annual Start-of-school-year Holy Mass was held at the St. Francis of Assisi Church in Shek Kep Mei this year. The mass was celebrated by the School Chaplain, Fr. Joey Mandia. All students and teachers attended the Holy Mass, which is a vital part of the student formation curriculum.
